Happy Thanksgiving!

There is much to be thankful for in the midst of all the chaos and craziness that is our world. YOU all – I am most thankful for! For all your efforts, volunteering, enthusiasm and commitment to the League and to our community- thank you! Also, for paying your dues and other monetary contributions to keep our organization growing, thank you. Please consider making a further donation to the League as we head in to this tremendously important 2020 election year.

I am just back from our statewide meeting in Emporia about March for the Polls 2020. This focus will begin with the 19th Amendment anniversary weekend Aug 22-23 through Nov 3, 2020.The state League is working on grants to promote civic engagement and getting out the vote in areas that have low voter turnout. The Kansas Health Foundation has given a large grant toward this because research shows if you are engaged in your community, you have healthier outcomes! Building partnerships with other community organizations will be a key part of making this program successful.Watch this space to see howYOU can help!

Our LWV KU branch continues to get organized and grow. They have great ideas for recruiting and events. We had members of the Concerned, Active and Aware Students volunteers attend our board meeting. We will be partnering with them and they will provide volunteers to help with our events. We are excited about the possibili- ties with building these networks!

The City Commission Candidate Forum Oct 14 was successful. Questions from a non-profit organizational focus provided a foundation for a very informative evening.

Join us at the end of the month for Drinks & Democracy, Friday Nov 22- Black Friday!, 5-7pm at Johnny’s North. It’s a great casual get together to chat about what’s going on in the world and see how you can get involved. We want to get to know you!
