Provides "Monthly Green Challenges" to members, to take one action toward living a sustainalbe lifestyle and fighting climate change. Look for them in your Voter newsletter. Here are some:
Kick the Plastic Habit: Avoid single-use plastics by using cloth bags to carry groceries and other purchases; carry a reusable water bottle; choose plastic-free school and office supplies; use plastic bags to recycle shredded paper; wash and reuse various plastic bags and containers and/or cover refrigerated food with cotton wraps; use glass or steel straws; use cloth rags rather that foam sponges; microwave food in glass or ceramic containers (because plastic leaches chemicals); try recyclable toothbrushes and shampoo bars; store items in cardboard boxes rather than plastic tubs.
Eliminate Food Waste. Food waste in the U.S. occurs mostly in stores and at home − either because it spoils on the store shelf or before we can eat it. According to a Natural Resources Defense Council study, Americans throw away up to 40 percent of the food they buy. Combat food waste by shopping for only what you need, eating leftovers, composting scraps, and donating excess to Just Food and other Lawrence organizations.
