Race, Ethnicity, and Jail Stays in Douglas County
Matt Cravens
Dr. Cravens will present the results of an analysis of racial and ethnic disparities in jail stays in Douglas County. It will explore whether specific racial or ethnic groups are overrepresented in the population of jail bookings or in the standing jail population. A multivariate linear regression analysis is used to statistically control for a wide range of factors other than race and ethnicity. The results suggest that disparities are extensive for black residents in Douglas County and, when controlling for other factors, they are extensive for Native American residents too. The presentation will consider how the results may serve as a springboard for further analysis identifying where and why the disparities arise in Douglas County.
