Cille King shares indicators of what improves voting turnout, or doesn't, which she gleaned from  NonprofitVOTE:

In the 2020 national election,

  • The 10 states with the highest turnout had either or both: Same-day voter registration or ballots mailed to all registered voters.
  • The 10 states with the lowest turnout had either or both: Cutoff of voter registration four weeks before the election or an excuse required for a mailed ballot.
  • Across the nation, 70 percent of voters voted either by mail or early; 30 percent voted on election day.
  • Kansas ranked 31st of the 50 plus DC for voter turnout as a percentage of the eligible population.
