The third event in our Speaker Series: Empowering Change: Everyday Actions for a Sustainable Future, an engaging panel discussion on the urgent issue of climate change and the pivotal role individuals play in addressing this global crisis. Our panelists, experts in environmental science, sustainable living, and community activism, will shed light on practical steps individuals can take in their daily lives to combat climate change. From small lifestyle changes to community-driven initiatives, this session will inspire and empower attendees to make a meaningful impact.

Presented by LWVHW in partnership with the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library and with funding from the Hamilton-Wenham Local Cultural Council.

Greg Horner, Hamilton Wenham Climate Action Team (HW CAT)Greg Horner
Greg is going to discuss steps Hamilton Wenham and other towns have taken to combat climate change. He will share some simple steps about things individuals can do to make a difference. A resident of Hamilton for the past 18 years, Greg has worked in the environmental nonprofit sector for 25 years. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Middlebury College, and Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Policy & Behavior from the University of Michigan.  With deep experience in environmental grantmaking, especially at the intersection of agriculture and climate change, Greg was a co-founder of the Hamilton Wenham Climate Action Team in 2022.  He currently works as a consultant to foundations, nonprofits, and individual donors; you can learn more at www.greghornerconsulting.com.

Sharon Byrne Kishida, Massachusetts Product Stewardship CouncilSharon Kashida
Sharon will speak about product stewardship legislation for mattresses and paint, and extended producer responsibility legislation for packaging. She will address S471 in particular, which the League of Women Voters has endorsed. A long-time resident of Rockport, Sharon recently retired from MassDEP where she served 23 years as the regional waste / recycling coordinator for the Northeast District 3, comprised of 39 cities and towns North of Boston. Currently, she is a planning committee member for the Mass Product Stewardship Council (MassPSC), a member of the Cape Ann Climate Coalition Legislative and Interfaith Climate Justice Committee, and a municipal solid waste consultant.

Neil will provide an overview of the Mass Save Program, including what to expect at your home energy assessment. Neil is a Field Supervisor at CLEAResult, the lead vendor for the Mass Save Program, one of the leading energy efficiency programs in the country. He supervises a group of energy specialists who conduct home energy assessments for the Mass Save Program around Essex and Middlesex counties. He has been working with the Mass Save Program for 12 years.
