Tour of the Boston Public Library and Lunch with Boston Public Radio
October 17, 10:30am-1:00pm
Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St, Boston
Join your friends (old and new) for a private tour of the Boston Public Library. Why a library tour? Most people don't know that the original purpose of libraries in this country was because Thomas Jefferson believed that an educated citizenry was essential for a functioning democracy; he believed that access to knowledge was crucial to an informed citizenry and empowered self-governance. He wrote "An informed citizenry is the only basis on which democracy can flourish”. We will tour the new addition, Digitization Lab, and some very special rooms in the old McKim Building. This special tour will be going through restricted areas not usually seen by the public!
After the tour, we will enjoy lunch together in the Newsfeed Cafe while watching the live broadcast of WGBH’s Boston Public Radio.
Take the MBTA Green Line with us (leaving Woodland Station at 9:20am), carpool, or meet us at the main door of the BPL at 10:15. We need a count and will help coordinate transportation, so please let us know you’re coming by emailing: LWVWellesley2 [at] gmail.com.
