Gogebic Range Candidate Forum for 38th District - October 1st - in person and on Zoom

  • 38th District Michigan State Senator Candidate Forum:  

    Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm (Central Time) --- 6:30 pm-8:00 pm (Eastern Time)

    Candidates confirmed to attend (as of 9/22/26):   Kelli van Ginhoven, Dave Prestin, Sara Cambensy

    All forums will be held at Gogebic Community College, Room B21 in the Business Building, best accessed via door #12 from the north parking lot.

 The purpose of the candidate forums is to enable voters to hear directly from the candidates and question them about important issues before the Tuesday, November 3, 2026 general election.  

 The event format consists of the candidates making timed opening and closing statements, and answering written questions from the audience.

 Adhering to the League’s “empty-chair policy”, candidates who are not in attendance will have a statement provided by them read verbatim by the moderator, giving their reasons for not attending, if the statement is provided. An empty chair and candidate’s name placard will be positioned at the candidates’ table for any candidate not in attendance.   

 If only one candidate attends the forum, a "meet and greet" event will replace the scheduled candidate forum.  Per League of Women Voters Candidate Forum guidelines, a forum cannot be held with only one party candidate present.

The event is organized by the Gogebic Range Unit of the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that encourages informed and active participation of all citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.
