The League of Women Voters of Michigan is applauding the Board of State Canvassers for its approval of the Promote the Vote 2022 Ballot Initiative, a pro-voter initiative that will improve access and security for Michigan elections.
“The Promote the Vote 2022 ballot initiative will improve the accessibility and security of Michigan’s elections by providing voters with more secure options for casting their ballots,” said Christina Schlitt, co-president of the League of Women Voters of Michigan. “The League of Women Voters will support the advancement of this initiative now that the Board of State Canvassers has given its formal approval. We know Michigan voters want more secure and accessible elections, and this ballot initiative provides those two important measures for ensuring all eligible voters can participate.”
“The League of Women Voters of Michigan’s mission is to ensure every eligible voter has the ability to participate in our elections, and this ballot initiative will help provide more options for all voters,” said Paula Bowman, co-president of the Michigan League. “We’re hopeful Michigan voters will sign the petition to bring this to the ballot in November so these policy changes of making voting more accessible and secure for all will be enacted.”
With the Board of State Canvassers’ approval of the petition summary, the campaign can begin collecting signatures. The ballot initiative would provide a week of early voting, public funding for postage for absentee ballots, secure drop boxes and ballot tracking, as well as additional time for military and voters who are overseas to return their absentee ballots. It would also allow voters to request absentee ballots for all future elections. ### The League of Women Voters of Michigan is the state league for the U.S. League of Women Vo
