March 25, 2022:  MICHIGAN SUPREME COURT RULES AGAINST LWV

  • With reference to the LWV’s lawsuit against the Kent County Apportionment Commission, the Court considered the complaint and relief was denied.  “The League of Women Voters of Michigan is disappointed in the ruling by the Michigan Supreme Court. This may be seen as a “green light” for partisan gerrymandering of county commissions,” said Co-President Christina Schlitt.    The court’s order can be viewed here.
  • With reference to the LWV’s (and others) lawsuit against the MICRC, the court considered the complaint and relief was denied.  “The League of Women Voters of Michigan is disappointed that the Michigan Supreme Court denied the complaint that the State House maps violate the the partisan fairness requirement of the State Constitution. The League will be watching election cycles in the event they reveal partisan bias,”  said Co-President Paula Bowman.  The court’s order can be viewed here.
