Monday, October 20, is the last day to register to vote or to update your registration online or by mail for the November 4 General Election. Starting Tuesday, October 21 (through 8 p.m. on Election Day), you can only register to vote or update your registration by visiting your city or township clerk’s office, completing a registration application, and providing proof of residency.
Proof of residency is a document with both your name and the address where you currently live. You can use any of the following:
A Michigan driver’s license or state ID card.
A utility bill.
A bank statement.
A paycheck.
A government check.
Any other government document.
For most voters, Tuesday, October 21, is the last day we recommend dropping your absentee ballot in the mail. Starting Wednesday, October 22, we recommend returning your ballot in person to your city or township clerk’s office or satellite office, or to a secure drop box in your city or township. This helps to ensure that your clerk will receive your ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day (November 4). You can find the drop box(es) in your city or township by going to mi.gov/vote and clicking on “Your voter information.”
Serving in the military or living overseas? The absentee ballot deadline is different for voters who are serving in the military or living overseas- their ballots must be postmarked by Election Day (November 4) and received by November 10 in order to count.
