In spite of myths and misinformation, formerly incarcerated people can register and vote in Michigan.  If you are otherwise eligible, the ONLY time you cannot register to vote (or vote) is when you are serving a sentence in jail or prison

You can register to vote and vote if:

  • You are in jail but have not been sentenced
  • You are serving a sentence but are not in jail or prison
  • You are on probation or parole but are not in jail or prison
  • You served your sentence and are no longer in jail or prison
