All are welcome
Join us as we gather not in sorrow alone, but in gratitude.
We come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of Ishmael “Ish” Ahmad—a visionary leader, tireless advocate, mentor, and friend whose life’s work helped shape the moral and civic foundation of our community.
Ish was more than a public servant. He was a bridge-builder. A believer in justice rooted in dignity. A man who understood that real change happens when people are seen, heard, and empowered.
Through decades of service—founding institutions, mentoring emerging leaders, defending civil rights, and standing unwaveringly with the most vulnerable—Ish helped give voice to generations of Arab American, Muslim, and marginalized communities in Michigan and across the nation. His leadership was never about recognition; it was about responsibility.
Those who knew Ish know this truth:
He didn’t just open doors—he held them open.
He didn’t just teach—he guided.
He didn’t just fight injustice—he inspired others to stand up and do the same.
For many of us, Ish was a mentor who believed in us before we believed in ourselves. He offered wisdom without judgment, strength without ego, and courage without compromise. His impact lives on in the organizations he built, the leaders he shaped, and the countless lives he touched—often quietly, always meaningfully.
Join us as we celebrate that legacy. Through stories, reflections, and shared memories, we honor a life devoted to service, compassion, and justice. We remember a man whose values continue to guide us and whose example challenges us to do better, to be braver, and to serve with humility.
As we leave here today, may we carry Ish’s legacy forward—not only in words, but in action. May we honor him by standing for justice, lifting one another up, and continuing the work he dedicated his life to.
Thank you, Ish.
Your light endures.
Your work lives on.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Concert of Colors.
