The Ecosystem Approach is a major tenet of both the Clean Water Act and the US Canada Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, both established in 1972. On the 50th anniversaries of this Act and Agreement, an international conference was held on “The Ecosystem Approach in the 21st Century: Guiding Science and Management.”
John Hartig was one of the organizers of this conference and will give a primer on the Ecosystem Approach, and then facilitate a discussion on what should/could be done to better operationalize it in the 21st century.
