The Model City Charter is used by hundreds of cities to guide their charter language and governance structure. The National Civic League recently revised its 120-year-old Model City Charter to provide guidance to cities on everything from city management to equity and public engagement. The newly released Ninth Edition continues the League’s tradition of helping cities implement professional, ethical and representative governance, and also includes a new emphasis on civic engagement and equity.
The 2021 revision process was led by a Steering Committee of 22 national representatives and experts. During this webinar, attendees will hear from participants from that revision process who will outline how cities might improve their treatment of equity and civic engagement. Lastly, we will hear about a city manager’s experience with incorporating equity into the city’s charter, mission and vision, and programs and policies.
