Social Movements: How Activism Shapes People and People Shape Activism / Citizens for Peace

Drawing on a range of social movements from past and present, Oakland University Sociology professor and author Dr. Jo Reger will examine how, as people engage in activism, they also can change the focus and course of social movements.

Jo Reger, PhD, is a professor of Sociology and chair of the Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice department at Oakland University.  She studies social movements and gender, and her recent books include Gender and Social Movements (2021, Polity), Everywhere and Nowhere: Contemporary Feminism in the United States (2012, Oxford University Press), and Nevertheless They Persisted: Feminisms and Continued Resistance in the U.S. Women's Movement (Routledge, 2019),  Her work on the U.S. women's movements has appeared in a variety of academic journals and she is often interviewed on the state of the women's movement and feminism.
