The League conducts candidate forums prior to elections. We hold forums for candidates running for State and Congressional office, school boards, township boards, city councils and even library boards. Whether the forums are in-person or virtual, they are recorded and available to the public here. All candidates appearing on the ballot (and write-in candidates who have been certified by the City Clerk) are invited to the forum.
The LWV provides candidate forums as an opportunity for candidates to express their views related to their candidacy. Statements expressed by the candidates are not endorsed nor opposed by the LWV. Also, the LWV does not certify any candidate responses to questions as accurate. Voters are encouraged to fact-check information shared at the forum.
Ownership of candidate forum recordings resides with the League of Women Voters of NW Wayne County . The candidates and their supporters agree not to use the forum video recording, portions of the forum or any audio clips, video clips or transcripts for political advertising, or other purposes without the expressed written permission of the League of Women Voters of NW Wayne County.
WAYNE CITY COUNCIL: A candidates forum for the 7 candidates who ran In the August 4, 2026 Primary was held on July 9, 2026. The 6 who received the most votes advancde to the November 3rd Midterm Election, where they will compete for 3 seats. Of the candidates in this forum, DeVincent McFarlin was eliminated and will not appear on the November ballot. All other candidates except Matthew. Mulholland appeared at the forum. WAYNE-WESTLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD: A candidate forum the Wayne/Westland School Board, via Zoom, took place on September 28, 2026. Five (four were present) candidates are running for three non-partisan, six year positions on the November 3, 2026 ballot. A video of the forum can be found here.
PLYMOUTH-CANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS SCHOOL BOARD: An in-person candidate forum will take place on September 29, 2026, 7:00-8:00 for the 4 candidates running for the 6-year term on the Board. 6TH DISTRICT US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:: Candidates for this office will participate in a live debate on October 12, 2026 from 6:00-7:30pm at the Ypsilanti District Library: Whittaker Road Branch. The public is invited. A video of this forum will be availble and posted here shortly thereafter.
