League of Women Voters of Missouri Endorses NO on Amendment 3 to Protect the Will of Voters
Missouri – The League of Women Voters of Missouri announced it is endorsing the NO on 3, Stop the Ban Missouri campaign and encourages Missouri voters to vote NO on Amendment 3 to prevent politicians from overturning the will of voters and banning abortion. The League of Women Voters state affiliate was founded in 1919 and has since helped millions of women and men become informed participants in government.
“Missouri voters used our citizen-led petition process to initiate and pass the Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, which gave Missouri the distinction of becoming the first state to end the abortion ban at the ballot box,” said Kay Park, Board President for the League of Women Voters of Missouri. “In August, Missourians overwhelmingly defeated a politician-led effort to gut that process, now we must defeat the same politicians’ attempt to overturn the will of the people by voting NO and rejecting Amendment 3.”
In addition to the statewide organization endorsement, local chapters across the state endorsed the NO on 3, Stop the Ban Missouri campaign, including Columbia-Boone; Greater Joplin; Kansas City/Jackson-Clay-Platte Counties; Metro St. Louis; Mexico-Audrain County; Moberly-Randolph County; Northwest Missouri; Tri-Lakes (Taney and Stone Counties); and Southwest Missouri.
NO on 3, Stop the Ban Missouri, released the following statement:
“The NO on 3 campaign is honored to have the League’s statewide and local chapters’ endorsements. For more than a century, the League has been a leader in civic engagement, ensuring voters throughout the state and from across the political spectrum are well informed on their ballot. Their support highlights exactly what is at stake: Missourians voted to end the abortion ban and protect reproductive freedom, now politicians are trying to overturn the will of voters so they can ban abortion.”
Since the Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment’s passage, politicians have failed to update laws and wasted resources defending unconstitutional restrictions in court, and attempted to gut the people’s right to the initiative petition while preserving the power only for politicians. Now they are forcing Missourians to vote on a new abortion ban in November, Amendment 3, which would overturn the will of voters and end guaranteed protections for birth control, IVF, safe birthing conditions, and abortion.
