League of Women Voters of Missouri: ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • COMING SOONBeginning in September we will begin having statewide Zoom Voter Power Hour every other month.  We will focus on issues that affect us all.  Our members and new members want to do more to protect our democracy and the due process of law. Our first meeting will start with exactly that:  Democracy: What can we do?

  • Watch for the announcement of our first Zoom Voter Power Hour available to all Missouri Leagues their guests.

  • FALL MEETTINGWe will not offer a Fall Meeting in lieu of the Voter Power Summit

  • NEW COMMITTEE:  Welcome to our newest committee:  Voters with Disabilities Committee, co-chaired by Barbara Sheinbein and Diane Golden.  If you are interested in joining, you may contact them via email.

    • Barbara Sheinbein:  homeplate9 [at] sbcglobal.net ()

    • Diane Golden:  diane.c.golden [at] gamil.com ()

  • STAND UP FOR CLEAN WATER:  Contact your representative to oppose HR 3898 which would gut the Clean Water Act by the PERMIT Act.  The PERMIT Act is a package of 15 anti-clean bills to remove the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to block dangerous projects, limits the rights of states and tribes to protect their own water, shields polluters from being held accountable and opens the door to unchecked pollution.

    • The LWV of five states make up the Interleague Upper Mississippi River Region (UMRR).  They submitted a request to LWVUS and were granted permission for all five states to submit letters to oppose HR 3898.

    • See the letter sent by LWVMO opposing HR 3898.  Feel free to use it as a template to write to your representative.

  • REDISTRICTING:  Jobs with Justice is organizing community meetings to prepare for potential redistricting in Missouri.  The first meeting is planned for August 20th.  Liz Wertz and Sandy Michaels, Co-Presidents of LWVSWMO will keep us informed.

LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE will move from the Kansas City League to the MO State League.  The committee has grown and now has members all across the state to monitor statewide MO legislative bills
