Cover of Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

Pick up a copy of Sue Monk Kidd's Invention of Wings. The novel focuses on the unlikely friendship between two exceptional women in Charleston during the last years of slavery in the United States. We'll meet on Zoom to discuss it at 5 pm on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The group met on Sunday, June 23, at 3 pm to discuss The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future by Robert P. Jones. The 310-page book includes interesting chapters on Emmett Till’s murder in Mississippi, a lynching in Duluth, Minnesota, and the Tulsa Race Massacre in Oklahoma.

On April 14, the DEI Book Club discussed White Like Me: Race, Racism and White Privilege in America,” a movie narrated by author Tim Wise. Wise suggests that we be color conscious but not color blind.
