The Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee is considering two bills that will ban gender-affirming care and restrict individual rights. The rights to control our own bodies and personal health care decisions are fundamental to our health, dignity, and freedom.

Senate Bill 6667 provides much needed legislation to enhance the safety of our communities. Please send an email to the Judiciary Committee in support of this bill with an added provision to prohibit fire arms at polling locations. Voters need to be able to exercise the right to vote without fear of violence or threat. The committee must release its Joint Favorable report on any bills they want to be considered by the full house and senate by March 31st, so we must act quickly to let them know we want these bills moved forward.

04/11/23: Senate Bill 300 & House Bill 7, the legislation containing Florida's near total abortion ban, will be voted on by the Florida House on Thursday (April 13). This is the final opportunity to ask legislators to oppose this legislation before it heads to the Governor's desk. We're urging every Florida League members to contact all members of the Florida House of Representatives and encourage them to vote "NO" on Senate Bill 300 & House Bill 7.

We are calling your attention to a new rule established by the Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) rule that went into effect on March 1st. This rule drastically limits the use of the Florida Capitol building and grounds for citizens and various groups by requiring events hosted by citizens and groups to be in agreement with a state agency’s mission.

2023 Warrant Review available for viewing

In order to engage voters early in the Annual Town Meeting legislative process, the LWV Hingham hosts an annual public review of the content of the Annual Town Meeting Warrant.

The presentation provides citizens the opportunity to review Articles and understand the issues before receiving the warrant in the mail. They can then follow up by attending Advisory Committee meetings at which the Advisory Committee will discuss its recommendations for the particular articles in which the citizens are interested.
