Mar 20 2023 to Mar 31 2023Senate Bill 6667: AN ACT ADDRESSING GUN VIOLENCE provides much needed legislation to enhance the safety of our communities. The League supports this bill with one major addition: the prohibition of firearms at polling locations. The committee must release its Joint Favorable report on any bills they want to be considered by the full house and senate by March 31st, so we must act quickly to let them know we want these bills moved forward.
Action:
Send your written support by email for SB 6667: AN ACT ADDRESSING GUN VIOLENCE to the members of the Judiciary Committee well before March 31st. Urge them to protect our right to vote without fear of violence or threat by adding a prohibition of firearms at polling locations. Invite your friends and family to also send an email in support of the bill.
About the bill:
SB6667:This bill would ban the open carrying of firearms, prohibit possession of any firearm in a bar, require secure storage of a firearm within the home and outlaw ghost guns and bulk firearm purchases. These are reasonable and rational provisions that do not infringe on lawful possession of firearms for self-defense, hunting or other recreational activities. The League urges that an additional provision be included that prohibits firearms at polling locations.

Subject: In Support of SB6667
Esteemed Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Members of the Judiciary Committee:
I am writing to you all in support of SB 6667, a bill to reduce the scourge of gun violence in our state. I believe the bill will keep us safer from ghost guns, bulk gun purchases, and unintended or accidental gun discharges by minors. I support the prohibition against the open carrying of firearms in our communities and the prohibition against possession of a firearm in bars. These reasonable measures will keep all of us safer and are entirely consistent with the responsible ownership of firearms for self-defense, hunting, and other recreational activities.
I would also like to urge you to add a provision prohibiting firearms at polling locations, thereby protecting our right to vote without fear of violence or threat.
Thank you for your service to the public.
Best regards,
