In the last 60 days, we have seen horrific gun violence across our country, with more than 80 mass shootings in our country. The Florida House of Representatives will likely hear House Bill 543 TOMORROW (March 23) which would bring permitless carry to Florida. We're urging Florida League members to contact their Representative and encourage them to vote NO on HB 543 & the pending open carry amendment.

Senate Bill 6667 provides much needed legislation to enhance the safety of our communities. Please send an email to the Judiciary Committee in support of this bill with an added provision to prohibit fire arms at polling locations. Voters need to be able to exercise the right to vote without fear of violence or threat. The committee must release its Joint Favorable report on any bills they want to be considered by the full house and senate by March 31st, so we must act quickly to let them know we want these bills moved forward.

What is happening regarding gun violence in Massachusetts? Join the League of Women Voters of Westwood Walpole & Dedham to discuss this issue with Executive Director, Ruth Zacharin, of the MA Coalition against Gun Violence on Monday, 10/3 at 7 PM on Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81113616201
Ruth spent over 20 years working with youth and adults impacted by domestic and sexual violence before becoming the inaugural Executive Director of the Coalition in May of 2019. Ruth has her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania and is also trained as a community organizer. She is particularly interested in creating models of trauma informed advocacy and policy making.

Nearly 250 people die from gun violence each year in MA, and many more are injured. Suicide is the leading cause of gun death in our country.
