Middlefield Residents: Join us for a Meet & Greet with Town Officials

League is  Hosting  “Meet & Greet” With Middlefield Officials on January 24
Residents of the Town of Middlefield will have the opportunity to connect with their town officials at a “Meet & Greet” on January 24, from 1:00-2:30 at the Clark Sports Center. The event, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area (LWVCA), will give residents a chance to connect one-on-one with their local officials and to hear their plans for the upcoming year.
WithNewly elected officials—Town Supervisor Ron Morgan and board members Lauren Ferrara and Michael Trainor—as well as the incumbent board members Kelly Branigan and Jeff Woeppel will attend. Middlefield residents will also hear from Doris Motta, the new Town Justice, and Jean Schifano, Middlefield Town Clerk. New Highway Supervisor Shane Young was also invited and may be in attendance. Leslie Berliant, who is replacing Dave Bliss as Middlefield’s representative for the District 7 on the county board, will also be at the event.
The gathering will begin at 1 p.m. with light refreshments in the Sports Center Community Room. At 1:30 LWVCA Co-President Christina Bourgeois will welcome the group and ask each official to identify two priorities for the upcoming year. The floor will then be opened for questions from the audience.

New to the League? Welcome!

If you're eager to get started in League, join the LWV New York State for its new member orientation. The Zoom meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.  Sign up here. This session will focus on “League 101” for new members. The Zoom meeting will be an overview of the basics of League—what it means to be a member and how local, state, and national all work together.  If you can’t make this meeting, don’t worry, the League will offer another orientation in 2026.Any new or current members are welcome to attend. The state League’s plan is to hold these new member meetings twice a year going forward. Learn how you can help Defend Democracy!

Get Involved: Learn About the League Observer Corps

The League of Women Voters Cooperstown Observer Corps is always looking for new members to help with this very important effort. Learn more about our League's Observer Corps and what we do.  

The Observer Corps is a great way to get involved in your community and in League work, especially if you are new to the League and to our community. If you are curious about Observer Corps work, plan to attend the LWV New York State’s  Observer Corps Kick-off meeting  on  December 10 from 5:30pm-6:30pm; the meeting will be recorded for those who are interested, but unable to attend. During this informational we will go over what the Observer Corps program entails as well as any other questions you may have regarding the program.

LWVUS and the League of Women Voters of the District of Columbia issued a joint statement in response to President Trump deploying the National Guard to Washington, DC, and taking over the DC Metropolitan Police Department

The League advocates for issues but does not support or oppose any candidates for office. Every League Board of Directors at each level is required to have a non-partisan policy. The League does not have a single policy that covers all Leagues. A link to the nonpartisan policy of the LWV of the Cooperstown area is available on our website.
