Celebrating the First 100 Years of the League of Women Voters
On the evening of Saturday, February 15, LWV-PA hosted a Gala that not only recognized the hundredth anniversary of the League of Women Voters but also allowed our League to present four Power of Leadership Awards to outstanding women in our community: Robbie Davis, a longtime LWV-PA member and past president; Laura Farber, former president of the Tournament of Roses; Gloria D. Gray, chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District; and Karen R. Lawrence, president of the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens. Each honoree was presented with a lovely personalized etched glass statue by our LWV-PA president, Pat Coulter, to recognize her leadership and accomplishments.
Beginning the Gala with our “step and repeat” was a favorite with all attendees. Cocktails and appetizers preceded the honoree presentations, followed by a wonderful dinner buffet with music and dancing, which lasted until the end of the evening. I’m sending much appreciation to each of the extremely hardworking Development Committee members, Anita Mackey, Katherine Gavzy, Pat Murar, and Martha Zavala. We also had some significant assistance from League members Peter Mackey, Peter Zavala, Jody Kenney, Jean Buennagel, Marcia Baldeschwieler, and Jackie Knowles.
To all who supported our Gala with sponsorships, ticket purchases, ad purchases, and donations, thank you for making our fundraising Gala a success. It is projected that we have met our budgeted net income goal of $10,000 for this event.
