  1. 1.     Call to Order

Meeting called to order at 5:32 pm.

2. Approve September Meeting Minutes

The September 8th meeting minutes were approved.

3. Quarterly Budget to Actuals Report

Sandra presented the first quarterly budget report for the 20-21 fiscal year, reviewing the income, expenses, and budget to actuals.

Motion:

Lori moved and Satsie seconded a motion to accept the quarterly budget report. Motion passed unanimously.

 4. Voter Outreach Update

Patty updated board members about voter outreach activities. LWVBC had a voter outreach table at the Chico Farmer’s Market through September. A good number of people have signed up to help with voter assistance centers. LWVBC is looking for people to staff the local league office to cover phone calls during the days surrounding the election in early November. Lori and Debra will email members the locations of official Butte County ballot drop boxes. Debra is also looking for volunteers to help check voicemail messages on the LWVBC phone line. Sandra will check for messages every Tuesday morning. Patty will also volunteer to check messages one day per week. If anyone else is available, please email Debra.

5. Candidate Forum Update

Claire updated board members that the forums are over, except the U.S. Congressional District 1 election, which is scheduled for October 14th. LWV Western Nevada County is taking the lead on that forum.

The forums went as well as can expected for this year. Many thanks to Linda MacMichael for moderating so many forums, and to Tim McAnulty for being the time keeper. Thank you and kudos to Claire for all her hard work!

Debra asked Patty and Claire to write updates of their voter outreach and candidate forum activities for the next newsletter.

Board members discussed keeping a list of forum questions and also resources and tips for future candidate forums.

6. Fundraising Activities

Board members discussed fundraising plans. Only a few of the LWV lawn signs were sold. There are plenty of signs left if anyone wants to purchase a LWV sign to post around Butte County. Board members brainstormed about different ideas and reviewed fundraising activities in the past, including the Annie B’s campaign, Power of 100 event, and the annual wine tasting. Some ideas are: end of the year solicitation for donations, participating in the National Day of Giving/Giving Tuesday, an online auction, partnering with a local restaurant for a share of proceeds from league business, and asking the broader Butte County community for support.

7. Rest of Fiscal Year Activities Planning

Please think about what else the league might be doing the rest of this fiscal year and what we want to accomplish between January-June 2021. One idea is to focus on biomass, water, and natural resources activities and information. Toni volunteered to work on those types of activities after the start of the year. The board will have a more detailed discussion about plans at the next board meeting. LWVBC typically has a potluck membership meeting in January or February. The board also needs to make recommendations to the state league about program areas.

8. Virtual Holiday Gathering Option

Should LWVBC have a virtual holiday gathering for league members? Board members suggested a casual holiday Zoom event.

9. Logic and Accuracy Testing/Observing Processing and Election Night Procedures/Reporting

Roxanne and Debra, along with Barbara Evans, went to the Butte County Registrar of Voters office in Oroville recently to participate in the initial logic and accuracy testing of the voting equipment. The Butte County Registrar of Voters office is interested in having another team of LWVBC members to be present on the evening of the upcoming election to observe election night procedures.

10. Other Business/Adjourn

Meeting adjourned at 7:06 pm.
