We have been fairly successful over the past year in adapting to a totally online environment, and we have been lucky to have several members who taught themselves to host all our meetings and webinars on Zoom. The host is usually invisible and muted and not obvious to the people attending Thursday with the League, League @ Nite, and other events. But the host is indispensable. We cannot produce these events without a host. The job is not rocket science, but it does take a bit of time and practice. Two of our Zoom hosts will be moving away shortly. Two other volunteers who helped with hosting duties have full-time jobs and cannot be readily or frequently available. That leaves us with ONE person, and that is an untenable situation.
The entire world has been coping with this pandemic environment for a year now, so there are certainly members out there who have also learned these skills, or are interested in learning them, and who would be willing to help rebuild our “Zoom team.” LWV committees and units have been meeting over Zoom all year; for those who have already been acting as Zoom meeting hosts it is not a major leap to move on to doing webinars. Training will be provided, as well as a basic “how-to” document. We have a co-host working alongside the primary host for all webinars, which is a great way to start in a sort of “apprentice” role.
Three webinars are scheduled over the next two months: on March 4, March 18, and April 8. This is a great opportunity to get some on-the-job training and practice. Take advantage of it! To learn more, please contact Katherine Gavzy at events [at] lwv-pa.org.
