3. Membership Renewal Options

Our membership census was at the end of January. According to our census, 114 members renewed their membership, 33 former members did not renew, and of those, 6 are students who are no longer active with the Chico State Associated Students student government. Of the 27 non-student members who did not renew, 2 cited financial considerations for not renewing. LWVBC had 22 new members join in 2020 and 6 new members join since the start of 2021.

Roxanne summarized the attempts to contact members about their renewals. Thank you to Lori and Patty for helping to call people with reminders to renew their membership.

4. Program Planning

Debrief on preliminary meeting from January; Prep for February meeting with membership; Decide State program preferences, areas of emphasis, and possible action or advocacy for spring.

There were approximately 11 or 12 non-board members who participated in the preliminary program planning meeting in January, including some former board members. Debra shared that one of the participants in the preliminary program meeting reported that it was the best program planning meeting she has attended.

Board members reviewed which program topics received the most attention at the preliminary program planning meeting and reported the outcomes of their breakout room discussions. The goals of the second/final program planning meeting are to (1) provide feedback by March 1st to the state league about program planning priorities and (2) develop recommendations for program planning to present to the local membership at the annual business meeting in May.  The second/final program planning meeting is scheduled for February 24th at 6:30-8 pm.

Board members discussed their initial preferences for feedback to the state league for program planning. At this time, board consensus is to recommend these program areas:  (1) housing/homelessness, (2) water policy/climate change, and (3) criminal justice.
