Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

Public Comment
Chief Bill Myers described a house fire over the weekend on Stewart Road; assisting departments included Hudson, Streetsboro, Ravenna Township, and Brimfield Township.
There were no injuries, and the call was answered within nine minutes.

Fire Update
Richard Smith reported that he continues to address concerns with Hookah Palace regarding fire lane blockage citations and over-capacity. He will work with the township zoning inspector and the city fire department.

Old Business
Regarding Kent’s proposed annexation of Davey Tree Company property located at 6700 St. Rt. 43, the city has rejected both of the township’s counter-proposals. The city issued a deadline of February 28, 2022 for the township to accept their offer of a 10 year reimbursement period during which the township will be paid the first three years of real estate taxes and then a 45%
portion of any income tax collected after occupancy estimated to be the end of 2025.

Possible NOPEC grant money projects were discussed, including solar panel installation at the maintenance garage, speed detecting solar-powered road signs, street light upgrading, or solar panels at park shelters.

New Business
The trustees agreed to utilize E Waste Day for disposal of old computers and monitors; we will insist on receiving documentation verifying safe disposal of those computers with information on them.

There was a discussion of snow removal on sidewalks that line the JEDD district along St. Rt. 59.
The conclusion was that the solution must be both long-term and involve a collaboration among the township, the city, and JEDD businesses to assure that pedestrians do not have to walk on the street.

Finances
Payment of bills totaling $23,851.2 was approved by all trustees.

Trustees entered executive session and then resumed regular session. Moved and approved was acceptance of Kent’s annexation proposal with an added stipulation that the ten-year reimbursement period should begin when income taxes start being collected on the property.
