Book Discussion - The 1619 Project

Book Discussion - The 1619 Project

Location

Zoom meeting
Tennessee US
Thursday, May 19, 2022 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Plan to join us as we discuss Nikole Hannah- Jones' recently released The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story on Thursday, May 19th. Our plan at this point is to gather virtually from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.

As you probably already know, The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story is an expanded version of the version printed in 2020 in the NYT Magazine. The new version includes the original essays plus newer essays by some truly outstanding writers, including Michelle Alexander, Robert Jones, Bryan Stevenson, and Ibram Kendi.

Previous LWVOR President Harriett McCurdy, who is well-seasoned in leading book discussions, will chair our discussion. She asks that as you read you answer the following questions and bring your answers with you to our discussion: 1: Three historical facts that surprised you. 2: Three quotes that stand out to you. 3: Three questions you have about the content of The 1619 Project.

LWVUS’s significant DEI goal to be “an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion” both in principle and in practice strongly undergirds our concern and action on behalf of racial justice. Plan to join our discussion as we seek both to learn and do more. I hope to see you there.
