Type:
Blog Post

Date of Meeting: 2/9/2023

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

The primary purpose of the meeting was to certify candidates and issues for the May 2, 2023, primary/special election. Candidates are from two cities: Kent and Streetsboro. Three candidates for Kent wards (1 and 4) had anomalies with their petitions. After review, they were all certified.

There were also three anomalies with petitions for positions in Streetsboro (wards and mayor). Streetsboro's charter has specific requirements that create additional requirements for candidates. Because of these, all three petitioners were denied. The issues were residency and qualified elector requirements, incorrect election dates, and insufficient valid signatures.

All issues for the May 2 ballots were in order and were certified.

Public outreach comments by Ms. Lyons and Ms. Nielsen addressed clarification of new election laws pursuant to the passage of HB458. At this time, very little has been communicated from the Secretary of State. As complete information becomes available, it will be posted on the Board of Election website and their Facebook page.
