Michigan - Path to a Prosperous Future: A Virtual Statewide Discussion / Citizens Research Council

Tuesday, May 16, 2023 - 12:00pm

Please join Bridge Michigan, Citizens Research Council of Michigan and Altarum for a timely and important conversation on May 16 about how Michigan is losing ground to and becoming less competitive than other states.

This public virtual event will bring together leaders from government, business and the advocacy community to examine and discuss the first in a series of reports from Altarum and Citizens Research Council that provides a comprehensive look at trends about Michigan's slowing population growth and the future of our workforce, economy and communities. Amber Arellano (Executive Director, The Education Trust-Midwest), Gabe Rodriguez-Garriga (Vice President, Strategy, Business Leaders for Michigan) and Susan Corbin (Director, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity) will explore the challenges to and opportunities for Michigan, and what actions should be taken to reverse these trends and put Michigan on a path to prosperity.

Amber Arellano, MPP, is the executive director of The Education Trust-Midwest. Throughout her career as a journalist, strategic communicator and civic leader, she has worked tirelessly to improve opportunities for all children, particularly those who are the most underserved.

Gabe Rodriguez-Garriga is Vice President for Strategy for Business Leaders for Michigan. He is responsible for the organization’s Economic Development and Talent work, and he also conducts research and develops and executes strategies for accomplishing policy objectives for the state’s economic recovery.

Susan Corbin is a veteran of state government. Under Susan Corbin’s leadership, the Department has produced monumental progress to close equity gaps; protect the health, safety and economic security of workers; educate Michiganders and grow the middle class by removing barriers to employment; create better jobs and support small businesses; and build strong communities and have great places to live.

The ”Michigan’s Path to a Prosperous Future” report series will begin with in-depth reports on Michigan’s population, economy, workforce and talent, which will be available on May 16. The series will continue with reports focused on Michigan’s health, infrastructure, environment and climate, and state and local government.
