Date of Meeting: 4/25/2023

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

PUBLIC COMMENT

A Brady Lake area resident thanked the township road department and crew members for their recent storm clean-up and brush chipping work.

Another Brady Lake resident requested that trustees vacate a paper road near his property.
Mr. Ciccozzi reported that historically when roads are vacated, the road is split in half, with each half going to the adjacent property owners.

A representative from the Twin Lakes Association stated that they looked into doing the same thing with paper roads in Twin Lakes but abandoned the idea due to the high cost.

ROAD REPORT

Topics discussed included brush chipping and leaf pickup in the Pines, a cease and desist order issued to a Spell Road resident, and a question for the county engineer's office related to the dollar amount of work a single contractor can pay in a calendar year. In addition, a list of road projects to be done this year was approved by all three trustees for $321,865.

Projects include the Lakeview Drive/Park St. intersection, Onondaga St., Sixth Avenue and Mockingbird Drive.

ZONING REPORT

Trustees voted to approve authorizing the prosecutor’s office to pursue contempt charges against the owner of 6426 Lakeview Drive and against the owner of 5738 Caranor Drive, both for junk.

FIRE REPORT

Mr. Smith reported that Alpha Pro Pets has been sold, Mars Motors has become Lucky Bonsai, and the former Jones Hookah Palace will become a manufacturing business.

OLD BUSINESS

There was a discussion of NOPEC grant funds spending options, including a new generator, the possible replacement of some mercury vapor street lights mercury vapor lights with LED lights, and an exploration of lighting for the Brady Lake ball field. Work on installing a new alarm system at the township hall continues. A decision was made to discontinue setting the alarm during evenings when officials of Sugar Bush Knolls have their monthly meetings at the township hall.

NEW BUSINESS

By a vote of all three trustees, Mr. Russell was approved as the Standing Rock Cemetery representative for the township. All three trustees approved a moratorium on the approval of medical marijuana dispensaries. A discussion focused on changing office hours; it was decided to leave open hours from 1 pm to 4 pm. Greg Huck was approved to fill a position on the Zoning Commission, replacing an existing member.

A discussion of the use of the Brady Lake ballfield was held. Because it was designed to meet the needs of the Portage Board of Developmental Disabilities Special Olympics program, it is not a regulation field. The trustees agree that it may be used by Kent Park and Recreation teams for practice but not by organized teams not affiliated with KPR programs.

CORRESPONDENCE

Mrs. Kapusta was notified that the field area behind the home run fence at Brady Lake Park was turfed recently.
