On Sunday afternoon, October 15, 2023, at Maxwell House, our League’s Development Committee and Board welcomed over 125 guests—including elected officials, community members, and League members—to our Ice Cream Social fundraiser. President Martha Zavala also hosted a special lunch with activities for our student Voting Rights Advocates prior to the Ice Cream Social. Although attendance was affected by traffic from the very popular Clásico de México at the Rose Bowl, many dignitaries and elected officials (see photo) were present, and a good time was enjoyed by all.

Our guests tasted Fosselman’s ice cream and sorbet with a variety of fresh fruits and candy toppings in addition to water, limeade, and iced tea. We hosted our Silent Auction with 130 donated items. We tested our guests’ civics knowledge and awarded individual and group gifts for the most correct quiz answers

Martha Zavala hosted a lunch for our student Voting Rights Advocates prior to the Ice Cream Social. They are (clockwise from lower right): Charles Beround, Lucas Gomez, Katelyn Gomez, Gabrielle Trujillo, and Lauren Gray

Our ticket sales and sponsorships for the event totaled $9,125. We are anticipating silent auction proceeds to be $5,856. This means that the total revenue from the Ice Cream Social will be just shy of $15,000. These funds will enable us to provide extensive voter education and support services during the 2024 election cycle.

The Development Committee would like to thank those who made this event so successful. Our Ice Cream Social team members (indicated with an asterisk in the following list) began work this summer. They and our other fabulous volunteers, listed below, made the Ice Cream Social possible:
