Board Members present: Satsie Veith, Sandra Flake, Caroline Langen, Toni Reid, Claire Greene, Marcia Moore, Caroline Langen, Carol Holzgrafe, Janet Rechtman (arrived 6:30 or so). Guests: Corky LeTellier, Liz Griffin, Keaton Denlay, Butte County Clerk-Recorder/Registrar.
Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m. Introduction: Liz Griffin, new League member, attended to learn about League projects.
Minutes The minutes for the October Board Meeting were approved as written.
Membership: Marcia reported that membership renewals were lower than normal. A reminder letter will be sent to all members. Marcia will phone the non-renewals and will take other steps. The deadline is January 31.
Discussion of board member political activity Marcia Moore was asked to sign on to a Valley’s Edge ballot measure information statement. She reviewed her discussions with all board members and others and the consensus that in this case it is not a violation of League principles. The Board will consider modification to wording of our policy to clarify this.
Elections office presentation Keaton Denlay, Butte County Clerk-Recorder/Registrar, was present to discuss presentations of Butte County Elections. He agreed to do a walking tour of the voting/ballot stations at the County. After discussion, we agreed to two presentations: a Zoom meeting on Tues, Jan. 7 PM, and guided tour at the County office on Thurs, Jan 9, at 4 PM. Both the Clerk’s office and League will advertise these meetings in a way that is directed at the general public, not just League members. Toni Reid encouraged us to do outreach to places where new residents have moved in, such as housing developments in Oroville.
Possible appointment of Corky LeTellier as Board Member Corky LeTellier was appointed as Board Member to replace Becky White, who has had to resign. Motion by Marcia; seconded by Toni. The motion passed unanimously. Corky will serve as Communications Director.
Voter Registration Request: Satsie advised the board of a request from a resident in assisted living for voter registration there. The board was interested in that idea and Corky will help follow up. Janet will reach out to Debra Barger about conducting VR training and to Andy Holcombe about helping coordinate outreach. Toni suggested doing the same at similar homes in Oroville as well. Toni and Corky will make a list. Site volunteers will have forms and be ready to answer questions.
Volunteers/Fundraising/Holiday Party/Intern:
Holiday Party: Date: Monday, December 11, Drop-in Open House at the office, 4 pm-6 pm. Keep it simple: cookies and cider.
Voters Edge is transitioning to Vote 411. There is a training on Dec. 7, which at this point Satsie is planning to attend.
Natural Resources Committee: Toni. Corky, and Suellen plan a late spring natural resources program with meteorologists discussing changes in weather forecasting and how these changes will affect the Oroville Dam’s release schedule of water.
Janet reported that the intern is interested in marketing.
Newsletter – Satsie hopes to have the newsletter out in early December. She called for entries. The deadline is the end of November.
Adjourned at approximately 6:55 PM.
