Five Democrats are running to represent Wayne, Westland, Canton Township and Dearborn Heights at the state Capitol.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called for a special election because the district's former representative, Kevin Coleman, was elected Westland's mayor earlier this year. Coleman was serving his third term in Lansing.

Voters in District 25 will head to the polls Tuesday, Jan. 30, to vote in a primary to narrow the five-person field. The winner will run against Josh Powell, a Republican from Westland, in an April 16 special election.
