May is almost over, but following this Tuesday evening's Annual Meeting and Dinner, we have an important occasion coming at us in June. This will not be a regular League meeting, but it will be an occasion to which we want to invite our community friends. FYI, you will find in this email the flier we are posting around town and New York University's press release on Corinna's book, Secrets of the Killing State: The Untold Story of Lethal Injection. 

 

Corinna, daughter-in-law of Oak Ridger Nancy Highfill, came to speak to us last year as she completed writing her book. This year, she is coming through Oak Ridge as she begins her book tour and will speak to us again. Touted by her publisher as "one of the leading voices on criminal justice in Virginia, where she teaches trial court judges, conducts annual training sessions for . . . public defenders and is the lead speaker at the Virginia State Bar's annual criminal law seminar," she is widely regarded as one of the nation's preeminent authorities on the death penalty.  

 

Plan to join us in the Oak Ridge Library Auditorium on Tuesday, June 2, 1-2:30 p.m. as we seek to learn more about issues with the death penalty and steps we can take to address them.

 

Attendees will, by the way, have the opportunity to buy the book, if they so desire ($29.95).
