For Voters: November 4 2025, Special Election

Easy Voter Guide

 Available in 5 languages

Want reliable, easy-to-understand information before you vote? The Easy Voter Guide breaks down what’s on the statewide ballot and gives you must-know details for the November 4 Special Election.

Because the election was called for November 4, we had to move quickly. Our team worked around the clock to get this guide ready in time. The Easy Voter Guide goes through a rigorous process to ensure accuracy and clarity:

  • It is summarized using the content provided by the Secretary of State.
  • It is written in plain language, intentionally avoiding bias and complex terminology.
  • It is reviewed by community peers in Adult Education classes to make sure the content is easy to understand. The November 4 Easy Voter Guide was reviewed in 4 community sessions by Adult Learners.
  • It is reviewed and approved by the Legislative Analyst’s Office to catch inaccuracies, missing points, or potential reader confusion.
  • It is translated into four other languages and reviewed again to ensure translation accuracy.
  • You can access the guide in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese at easyvoterguide.org. Audio and plain text versions are also available.

League Resources to Help Every Voter

In addition to the Easy Voter Guide, the League offers tools to help you vote with confidence this November. All resources are available at cavotes.org, including:

  • Voting Reminders

Voting by mail? Mail it back early!

Voting By Mail? Mail It Back Early! – Ballots are mailed about a month before Election Day. Fill out and return your ballot as soon as you can, ideally before Halloween. Use official drop boxes or drop-off locations and track your ballot to make sure it’s counted. Don’t be spooked by potential mail delays. Mail your ballot early to avoid the mail delay goblins.

Your vote counts! Start early, return securely, and stay informed.

Advocacy Update

With Baited Breath

The Governor has until October 12 to sign or veto bills. We are advocating with his office and closely monitoring his decisions.

So far…

Text reads 'CALIFORNIA FAIR ELECTIONS ACT, Ballot Ready for November 2026'

Governor Newsom has signed our sponsored bill SB 42 (Umberg) – the California Fair Elections Act! This sends the measure to the November 2026 ballot, giving voters the power to decide whether to lift the ban on public financing of campaigns and reduce the influence of money in politics.

He also signed AB 260 (Aguiar-Curry) which protects access to medication abortion, ensuring that patients, providers, and facilities can continue to provide safe, legal, and accessible reproductive healthcare. And SJR-1 (Wiener) which rescinds all of California’s prior calls for a Constitutional Convention, closing the door on a process that could have put the Constitution at risk, has passed and is on its way to the federal government to be officially tallied.

These are some important initial victories. Keep an eye out for the 2025 Advocacy Wrap Up in the LWVC’s annual Democracy Works Newsletter, available in November. You can also see information on all bills by viewing our LWVC Bill Status Report. Remember to also subscribe to LWVC action alerts!
