Day 1 of our series is now complete. If you missed it, below are links to the two films we watched to kick-off our event. We hope you'll join us on the 14th and/or the 21st at Black Oak Casino Resort in Tuolumne.
Our first film was "Tending the Wild" about Native American use of fire. https://www.pbssocal.org/shows/tending-the-wild/clip/cultural-burning
Our second film was "The West is Burning" which explains how we got to the forest conditions today that are leading to large catastrophic fires across the west. https://www.pbs.org/video/the-west-is-burning-P2u7ow/
Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Our Mother Lode unit was begun in 2017 by a small group of women and men who were concerned about the democratic process in our local communities. We have grown to nearly 100 members and reach hundreds more through our registration/education events, candidate forums, monthly newsletter, and website. We became an official League in 2021.
We are grassroots and local; citizens with a mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy. We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate in our government.
