Special Events Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence
We Declare - Fourth of July Event
On July 4, we mark 250 years since the signing of our Declaration of Independence. After its signing, copies of the Declaration were sent across the land, often to be read aloud at a community gathering.

The League of Women Voters of the Copper Country is holding a special gathering on July 4 for the community to read the Declaration aloud. Called “We Declare,” a rolling reading will begin at noon at the Rotary Pavilion in Kestner Waterfront Park, Houghton. Attendees will read the Declaration, one paragraph at a time.

All are welcome to read.

In addition to the public reading, the League will be offering free copies of the U.S. Constitution. There is a space on the back of each copy for the person to sign a pledge to support the Constitution. Upon signing, a special commemorative sticker will be added, marking this 250th anniversary. Distribution of the Constitution booklets will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Join us and help spread the word.
