Sharon Taylor McGlone

League member, Sharon McGlone, shared her experiences when she and six other African-American girls integrated the Spotsylvania County School district in 1963.

Sharon, married, a mother of four, retired educator and LWVSHR member, reflects on her childhood experience as well as the impact on her life. Sharon says: “Remembering that period in my life always resurrects feelings of loss, unrealistic expectations and rejection. I remind my nine-year old self that it’s OK to be me. I also accept that I am the change I want to see in this world.”

We are proud to present the video of this presentation.
