Date of Meeting: 10/12/2021

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

Both voting machine allocations and ballot allocations for the November election were proposed and approved.

Attendance of election officials at the upcoming Ohio Association of Election Officials Conference was discussed.

Members of the public raised the issue of placing a referendum related to decriminalization of misdemeanor amounts of marijuana in Kent on a future ballot. The group failed to secure enough signatures for the initiative to be placed on the November ballot, but they intend to appeal a number of the rejected signatures. Election officials will consult with the county prosecutor and Kent officials about next steps.

Trustees discussed a pay scale being developed by the County Commissioners proposed to be applied to county employees not represented by a board. Board members agreed that such a pay scale can not apply to election officials or employees because of special requirements put in place by the state.

Which members of the board/council were present: Denise Smith, Doria Daniels, Randi Clites, and staff members Faith Lyon and Theresa Nielson. Absent was Amanda Suffecool, no reason given.
