Streetsboro Board of Education Meeting

Meeting Summary:

The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on October 8, 2024, at 5:45 PM.

President Kristin Bedford opened the meeting with a Roll Call and the Pledge of Allegiance.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.

The Regular Meeting Minutes from the 9/12/2024 Regular Meeting were approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Athletic Director Randy Tevepaugh introduced the championship golf team and coach. This is the first time in 24 years that Streetsboro has had a championship golf team. Coach Thomas was also awarded “Coach of the Year”.The team tied as league champions with Norton.

Mr. Brett McCann presented a detailed look at the district’s Report Card. The district received an overall rating of 4.5 stars on a 5-star scale. There are lots to celebrate and items to focus on for continuous improvement. The district had a 4-star rating from the previous year. The 0.5-star boost results from early literacy improvement from 2-star to 3-star. Growth was seen in all of the buildings. The Streetsboro District did very well compared to other county and statewide districts. The goal is to reach an overall 5-star rating in 2025-2026.

The 1st Annual Bubble Run was a surprising success as a fundraiser. The district will net a little under $25K due to support from staff, parents, students, and the community. The participation rate was exceptional, with over 80% of the student body participating. The funds will be used to enhance playground equipment.

The Quarterly Newsletter has gone to the printers and should be hitting mailboxes next week.
The Strategic Planning process is in full swing. A team meeting will be held on October 22. The Streetsboro Mayor has agreed to participate, and some businesses will also help. A large group will meet on November 13. The group will break up and meet with community members to create an action plan. There will be a retreat in March to form the Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan is expected to be presented to the Board for approval in April or May.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Brian Haines reported that the fund balance will drop in the next couple of months due to expenses. Two renewal levies for the district are on the November ballot.

CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: There are three rental agreements with Young Explorers. C.J. Scarpinio expects many more to come. Fencing will be installed around the playgrounds. This is a safety issue and funding for the fencing will come from the safety grant and capital improvement funds.

BOARD REPORTS: Maplewood currently has 755 students enrolled. They are remodeling the Culinary Arts area.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS B-O were approved by all Board members.

There was no NEW BUSINESS.

There was no OLD BUSINESS.

A standard update was made to the CPR and AED Training Policy.

The Board adjourned at 6:37 PM.
