Treasurer Connie Baldwin presented the annual five-year financial forecast for Board approval. The forecast shows a cash balance through 2026. Due to conservative fiscal practices, the district has not asked voters for new money since 2011 and there will be no operating levy renewals until 2030. Anticipated fiscal challenges include aging infrastructure, aging curriculum, and declining enrollment.

The Board approved a variety of staffing changes and contracts, revised district policies, and pay scales. The pay rate for substitute teachers will be $105.00 per day. The Board approved a motion to expand employment of substitute teachers for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years pursuant to Ohio Senate Bill 1 and Substitute House Bill 583, which authorizes the employment of substitute teachers who do not hold a postsecondary degree but do hold a non-renewable temporary substitute teaching license.

Highlights of principal reports: The elementary schools hero hike, Veterans breakfast, and canned food collection were a success. The middle school student council recently attended a leadership seminar. At the high school, 94 students will be enrolled in CCP (college credit plus) next term and 45 sophomores have applied for Maplewood.

Under old business, Superintendent Andrew Hawkins reported that the new updated school district website won’t be operational until March. A purchase order requisition for two new sousaphones was signed today. Board member Jennifer Curall requested that the Board work session to look at curriculum materials take place before spring break.
