Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

Public Comment:
A Franklin Township resident voiced his appreciation for the service that Mr. Benjamin has provided in his many years of service as a trustee.

A Stewart Lake resident is requesting township approval of special no trespassing signage on behalf of the lake association. Two other residents spoke against the specifics of the signage requested, and after discussion all three trustees were in agreement that the issue should be referred back to the association.

A Twin Lakes representative of the Twin Lakes Association suggested that an AED device located at the beach would be of use to residents and would like to seek a partnership in securing one with the township or City of Kent. Kent Fire Chief Bill Myers suggested that grants may be secured to help pay for this, and will help with research.

Fire Update:
Mr. Smith reported that another late night visit to the Jones Hookah Palace became necessary during an event as there were more vehicles than indicated by establishment personnel and the fire lane was again blocked. The fire department will work with the sheriff’s department on citations going forward.

Road Report:
An extensive list of completed work was read by Mr. Benjamin. He also reported that snowplows are ready to go.

Zoning Report:
Submitted as written and attached to the official record.

Old Business:
There was a discussion regarding communications with the county about the solid waste district contract with the township. Attorney Chad Murdock has been retained because of the county’s attempt to void the existing contract. All three trustees agreed to accept the proposed fee increase to $5.50 per month for recycling pick up. However, the township has yet to make a determination regarding possible litigation related to the leaf pick-up language in the current contract.

All three trustees approved a posting in the Record-Courier for two positions, that of a full-time road crew member and of a seasonal snow plow person.

All three trustees voted to approve appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals of Sam Abell to complete the term of Glenn Russell, trustee-elect.

Payment of bills totaling $61,236.17 was approved by all three trustees.
