Meeting Summary:
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. It was the first business meeting of 2025. Nominations were made, and votes were taken on Board positions. The Treasurer‘s report was approved. Financial recommendations were discussed, voted upon, and passed unanimously. Meeting dates were established for 2025.
A Special Meeting was convened to present awards by Lions Club President Brett Housley to three outstanding students. Afterward, the Board accepted a donation from a Rootstown alum for $6900 earmarked for the athletic department and the robotics program. An Early Childhood Education grant was approved. Approval was also granted for the 2025-2026 school calendar and the College Credit Plus program.
Member Doug Saltsman gave summaries of Senate Bill 104 ( bathroom gender policy), House Bill 8 ( Parental Rights), and House Bill 206 ( religious instruction). Doug Saltsman said students have been permitted to receive such instruction, but no pertinent school policy exists. The Board is awaiting the State of Ohio's guidance on implementing these bills.
The Board then moved to Executive Session.
