Date of Meeting: 1/14/2025
Format: In-person
Meeting Summary:
A Brady Lake area resident came with questions about the resurrection of Captain Brady Day, including those related to permits that may be required, use of the ball field, liability issues, and the permissibility of food trucks. The trustees agreed on the need for details from the committee working on the event, including such items as parking, activities, anticipated attendance, security, etc. Detective DeSerio will look into the requirements for security protection for the event.
Jill Grimm from the Twin Lakes Association shared information about the association’s work with the Portage County Soil and Water Conversation District in monitoring lake water levels in response to concerns from Clio Avenue residents about road flooding. Mr. Russell and Akerley will meet with Eric Long to discuss the issue.
Detective DeSerio presented calls for service statistics for December. Calls for theft, domestic disturbance, assistance to the rescue squad and other agencies, premises checks, and suspicious persons, among others, represent a total of 291 calls.
ROAD AND FIRE REPORTS
Mr. Akerley presented a summary of road resurfacing projects completed in 2024. A total of 1.83 miles for $322,766.93 were resurfaced, including Greenwood Ave., Merrill Ave., Knoll Road, Westlake Blvd., Carlton Dr., Sixth Ave., Second Ave., and Ohio St.
Mr. Smith noted that 2024 totals show that the City of Kent Fire Department answered 5,889 calls, including 779 in the township. This represents 13.22% of calls.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Smith provided information about quotes from a company that could install appropriate AED units in Phillips and Brady Lake parks. The cost of purchase and installation will be approximately $4,300 apiece and will be put in place this spring.
The new emergency warning system is currently being built and will be installed at Phillips Park when received.
NEW BUSINESS
The bridge on Judson Road has been closed for repairs by the engineer’s office, and a detour has been established.
Mr. Akerley will renew his pesticide license; this will allow the termination of the township's contract with Terminex and allow Mr. Akerley to assume responsibilities for pesticide management.
Concerned residents have contacted the trustees about the Ferguson and Ravenna Road stop sign since many motorists have been running it. Mr. Swan will follow up with Mike Collins to determine who has the jurisdiction to erect blinking lights at a dangerous intersection.
CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Russell reported on communications received related to the flooding on Clio Avenue and also gave a follow-up regarding easement access from Sylvan Drive to Phillips Park.
Mr. Swan reported on a Caranor Dr. resident who called with concerns about a neighbor parking in a manner that blocks his driveway. Mr. Swan will converse with the neighbor to try to resolve this.
