Date of Meeting: 12/13/2021

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

Public Comments:
A Brady Lake resident reported that cars parked on the corner of Garfield and Washington at the crest of a hill represent a traffic hazard. Someone in the township office will look into the issue.

Reed Havel is joining the Zoning Board and the trustees introduced and welcomed him.

Mark Beckwith, a former township trustee, bid a warm farewell to Mr. Benjamin with a chronicle of some of the projects that would not have been possible without his leadership, including in part: Hudson Road phases I and II, the JED, the McKinney and Glad Blvd annexations, the annexation of Pebblebrook, the bike trail, Chase Park, the Judson Rd bridge replacement, the traffic light at 6th and Rt. 59 and the one at Cox and Rt. 59, playgrounds at Chase and Phillips Parks, and many more. Mr. Benjamin was given a standing ovation at his last meeting as trustee.

Road Report: Submitted as written and attached to the official record.

Zoning Report: Submitted as written and attached to the official record. In addition, Mr. Ciccozzi asked for an address on Sylvan Drive to be declared a nuisance. This was approved by all trustees.

Old Business:
In the matter of the Fire and Ambulance agreement with the City of Kent, language about the donation of the equipment is not in the proposed contract. Trustees agreed that that nothing should be signed until these issues are resolved in writing.

Mr. Swan discussed a JED meeting from the last week which seven people attended. He described the importance of the JED in enabling the township to keep pace with increases to fire and ambulance services charges. In particular, we will encourage development within the northern corridor of Rt 43.

Mr. Benjamin described the need to replace the walkway in Chase Park, which was installed with the help of the City of Kent approximately 15 years ago. The wood in the boardwalk has now reached the end of its useful life. He said the new trustees should be aware that it will cost approximately $50,000 to put in a new structure, and will take about a month to complete. It should also be made wheelchair accessible. It’s possible that an ODRN grant could be used to pay for part of the cost since one was used to help pay for the initial construction.

New Business:

All trustees agreed to provide Jenny with classes to become a notary.
