SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Superintendent Deevers introduced the Streetsboro Elementary Safety Kids Team. This is a new program this school year. A team of students is selected to meet other students at buses and as they enter the building to help safely direct them to their classrooms. They help hold doors, carry books and projects, and escort kindergartners to their rooms. The Safety Team members meet for an early breakfast and are stationed to greet students as they begin arriving. The Safety Team members are learning and demonstrating leadership skills. The program has been a success and will be continued.
Third graders will go to Henry Defer Intermediate School next academic year. The move will allow teaching teams to work together more closely and even the number of students in each building.
This is School Board Appreciation Month. A video was presented to School Board members, with faculty, staff, and students expressing their appreciation for the work of the School Board.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The December and January cash balances are lower than they were last year. The balances are sufficient to cover payroll.
CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: Apptegy is the vendor selected for website support. It comes with an app that will replace the current messenger system. Families can interact with their phones, and data will be made more secure. Once the contract is signed, the migration process will begin with plans to go live in time for the 25/26 academic year.
BOARD REPORTS: Maple Leaf restaurant at Maplewood School has reopened. Students from the band will be participating in the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tribute concert. Governor DeWine has signed the Parents Bill of Rights bill. The legal council has been contacted to review and ensure the district complies with the new legislation.
