Meeting Summary:
The minutes of the April 28, 2023 meeting were approved as were voucher numbers 7415 through 7438 without discussion.
Ballot Review: Ballot Remakes: none for remaking. Absentee ballots: 606 countable ballots were received before election day and 7 by the deadline after the election for a total of 613 countable ballots. The BOE visits nursing homes twice for absentee ballots: 3 residents either were not there or chose not to vote. 19 absentee ballots remained outstanding. Provisional ballots: 26 provisional ballots were cast: 18 were countable; 8 were not countable: 6 were not counted because the voter did not visit BOE with a photo ID within the time limit, one voter was not registered and another voter's ID did not match.
The 2024 budget proposal was discussed. The proposed budget includes an 8% increase for full-time staff and 2% bonuses for the staff. Health insurance will increase by 14% over the previous year. The board approved the budget which may or may not be approved by the Commissioners. It was noted that in 2025 the board will have to buy new equipment.
The May 19th board meeting was canceled as the business scheduled for that meeting was completed today.
Logic and Accuracy Testing prior to Official Certification was completed and all was in order. Permission was given to the staff to conduct the official canvass; Ballot and Machine allocations for the August 8, 2023, Special Election, were made. (While an August election has not been confirmed, such allocations must be made 90 days prior to an election.) Currently, there are 107,034 registered voters. After the directed adjustments, 108,410 ballots will be required. Machines: 76 DS 200's; 53 Express machines; 137 poll pads, and a maximum of 640 table tops. The board approved these figures with the understanding that changes could be made as more information is available about an August election.
