Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

PUBLIC COMMENT

A Twin Lakes area resident passed along a letter of thanks to the trustees for the efficient and skilled repair work done by the road crew to the storm drain near South Blvd.

ROAD, ZONING AND FIRE REPORT

Mr. Swan stated that it is good to see the amount of road work taking place throughout the township.

In the zoning report, Mr. Ciccozzi asked for permission to mow at four different properties, about which there have been several complaints. Also, a complaint was received from a resident about the scooter rentals, which have been dangerously abandoned in front of businesses. The township administrator will follow up to determine the protocol for the drop-offs of these vehicles.

Mr. Smith reported that the new fire alarm system in the town hall is now functioning; the city will inspect it.

OLD BUSINESS

The rebidding process for the Hudson Road phase IV project will be opened on July 11, 2023; if the new bid is accepted, construction will hopefully begin soon after acceptance.
The prosecutor’s office has become involved in solving many zoning, fire, and building code violations from the Burnt Pickle, and all of the township’s information about the business is being turned over to that office. Hired contractors have fixed a township road damaged by a resident, and the resident will be billed for reimbursement.

NEW BUSINESS

Amendments to a resolution regarding definitions of accessory structures and buildings recommended by the Zoning Commission were approved by all three trustees.

A Dollar Lake resident asked Mrs. Kapusta for permission to close Elm Drive for four hours for a neighborhood party. The road department will provide barricades, notice to the township of dates and times of closure, and notice to the county Sheriff’s Office and Kent’s fire department.

Mrs. Russell summarized information gained at a recent Portage County Township Association meeting. Work on the now-closed Ravenna Road bridge is scheduled to be bid out at the end of 2023 and completed in 2024 or 2025. Also, Franklin Township has been approved for OPWC funding for phase IV of the Hudson Road project.

FINANCES

The upcoming budget hearing was briefly discussed on July 27, 2023. Mrs. Russel gave a summary of what the budget includes.

Payment of bills totaling $177,425.56 was approved by all three trustees.
